Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary

Lower Winstone Farm, Ventnor, PO38 3AA

The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary began in 1987 when a local postman called Charlie came by a donkey called Dillon and set up some land on the outskirts of Newport. He and his wife bought the land and from then on people left rescued and abandoned donkeys with them. In 1991 the sanctuary was registered as a charity and in 1994 it relocated to its current site. The sanctuary relies on generous donations from the public and help from its many volunteers.
